Limerick Chess Club AGM was held on Wednesday, 12th September 2012 at 8.00 pm. at the Catholic Institute, Rosbrien, Limerick
Present were
Pat Hayes (President), Michael Meaney (Chairman), Phillip Foenander (Secretary), John Cassidy (Treasurer), Laurent Talazac (Asst Secretary), Stephen Danaher (Asst PRO), Gerry Casey, Kensy Joseph, Joe Cronin, Liam O’Brien, Tim Dineen, and John Alfred.
The meeting was declared open by the Club Chairman.
Minutes of the previous 2011 AGM were read out by the Secretary.
The Secretary’s Report including a brief summary of the club’s activities during the season 2010-12 was presented.
The Treasurer’s report on the club’s finances was then presented.
Members present were informed that the Munster Chess Union AGM was being held on the following Wednesday night (Sept 19th 2012) if they wished to attend.
The Secretary then called for motions to be discussed by members present.
Motions
- 1) Club meeting venue – a suggestion by John Cassidy (seconded by Phillip Foenander) to change the club meeting venue to the Limerick Lawn Tennis Club on the Ennis Road, which has more space and has a private playing room which is quieter than the current venue. John Cassidy stated that he had viewed the premises and parking is adequate. This possibility will be further investigated and all present agreed that the club needs a quieter venue to concentrate.
- 2) Tom White Cup – after a discussion among all present, it was agreed to change the format to a 6-round Swiss Open for all paid-up members instead of in Over and Under 1200 sections as in past years.
- 3) The 2012 Limerick Open to be held October 27-29th. John Cassidy agreed to try and organise it again this year with help from either Ray O’Brien or Ted Jennings as Controller. John would request financial assistance from the club as needed for prize money and cost of hiring a venue. The possible venues were also discussed, such as the South Court hotel or the Absolute hotel, but the South Court hotel has better parking facilities.
Nomination and election of Club officers was carried with the following officers voted in:
Chairman – Michael Meaney re-elected
Secretary – Phillip Foenander resigned. Assistant Secretary Laurent Talazac was nominated and elected as new Secretary.
Assistant Secretary – Kensy Joseph nominated and elected.
Membership Secretary – John Cassidy re-elected
