Limerick Open 2016
The Limerick Open 2016 was held on the October bank holiday weekend (29–31 October) at the Savoy Hotel, Limerick. It was a six-round event, with 87 entries in the Philip Hogarty Open (56 players) and the Under 1400 section (31 players).
Philip Hogarty Open
First prize went to IM Lucian Miron (Romania), who finished on a perfect 6/6. Round 5 leader Miron, playing Black, won in round 6 against Piotr Leichert (Cork) to finish in sole first place and win the perpetual trophy. Second prize went to Killian Delaney (Gonzaga), who beat Ioana Gelip (Romania) in round 6 to finish on 5.5/6. Third prize went to Reinhold Mueller (Germany), who won against Jonathan Peoples (Derry) in round 6.
- Grading prizes: U-1850 Shane Melaugh (Elm Mount) 5/6; U-1550 James Naughton (Limerick) 3.5/6; U-1350 Aaron Daly (Ennis) 3.5/6
Under 1400 section
- First prize: Michal Surowka, 5/6
- Second prize: Desmond Martin (Naomh Barrog), 4.5/6
- Third prize: shared by five players on 4/6: Adam Groucott (Ennis), Thomas Dunne Snr (Ballinasloe), Eamonn Canning (Limerick), David Piercy (Galway) and Maurice Coveney (Cork)
- Grading prizes: U-1050 Zalan Nemeth (Galway Juniors) 3.5/6; U-700 John McAleer and Cian Pyne (both Ennis) 3/6
