Limerick Open 2017
The Limerick Open 2017 was held on the October bank holiday weekend (28–30 October) at the Kilmurry Lodge Hotel, Limerick. It was a six-round event, with 66 entries in the Philip Hogarty Open (46 players) and the Under 1400 section (20 players).
Philip Hogarty Open
IM Lucian Miron (Romania) and FM Colm Daly both finished on 5/6. Round 5 joint leader Miron, playing Black, drew with FM Colm Daly (Bray) in round 6, so both finished in joint first place. IM Miron won the best-of-two-games blitz play-off (3 minutes plus 2 seconds each) and retained the perpetual trophy. Joint third prize was shared by four players on 4.5/6: IM Alvaro Valdes Escobar (Chile), FM Daniel Hristodorescu (Romania), Aldo Hartl (Germany) and Rudolf Tirziman (Blanchardstown).
- Grading prizes: U-1850 Liam O’Brien (Sarsfield) 4/6; U-1600 Robbie Kildea (Enniscorthy) 3.5/6; U-1350 Martin Fitzgerald (Kilkenny) 3.5/6
Under 1400 section
- Joint first prize: Andrejs Kozlovs (Galway Juniors) and John P. Dunne (Ballinasloe), both on 5/6. Andrejs Kozlovs won the best-of-two-games blitz play-off
- Joint third prize: Colm McElwain (Limerick) and Martin Kelly (Belfast), both on 4.5/6
- Grading prizes: U-1100 Danill Kashanin (St Benildus) 4/6; U-800 Colm McElwain (Limerick) 4.5/6
